• 7 Habits of Highly Effective People at AHHS

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People foster skills that will remain with us throughout our lives.  Starting with the individual, one important goal of our school community is to help each person internalize the knowledge that we are the leaders of our own lives – our thoughts, feelings, and actions. We are all at risk of being  “led” astray by negative outside influences like poor role models, unhealthy family relationships, or the superficial values promoted through the media.

In addition, we could all use more confidence to view ourselves as potential agents of change. Though we often can recognize natural leadership ability in others, this often does not square with the individual’s own self-concept. We feel strongly that The principles will help give many in our school the tools to realize their untapped potential as leaders, people who can move a group toward a common goal.

We envision these principles helping staff and students at AHHS to be more effective leaders in the wider Elmsford community. In many ways our school is the social and cultural hub of the village. The leadership principles will help to create a common purpose among disparate groups within our diverse community. Additionally, it will invite local businesses and not- for-profit organizations to more clearly recognize our school as a reliable and viable partner for potential projects, programs, and employment opportunities.  We hope to develop a service learning curriculum component that will culminate with an internship experience to build on these relationships.
