    Unit 1 Active Citizenship
    Students learn about what it means to be a good citizen. Students learn how citizens are responsible to their community. Students learn about why citizens need rules in both their school and home communities.
     
    Unit 2 Rural, Urban, and Suburban Communities
    Students learn that there are many different types of communities. Students learn about the characteristics of rural, urban, and suburban communities.
    Students compare and contrast the characteristics of each type of community. Students identify the type of community they live in and its unique characteristics.
     
    Unit 3 Geography of Communities
    Students recognize continents, oceans, landforms, and bodies of water. Students learn about how geography influences the lifestyles of different communities. Students learn how to read a map using a compass rose.
