Types of Diploma
- Regents diploma
- Regents diploma with an advanced designation;
- State high school equivalency diploma as provided in section 100.7 of Commissioner Regulations;
- High School Individualized Education Program Diploma as provided in section 100.9 of Commissioner Regulations
- Regents diploma, or Regents diploma with an advanced designation, with an affixed technical endorsement awarded upon completion of an approved career and technical education program.
REQUIRED EXAMS FOR REGENTS DIPLOMA
Passing the following Regents exams with a score of 65 or better is required for a Regents Diploma:
- Comprehensive English Mathematics (Any one)
- Global History
- US History
- Science (Any one)
- Language other than English
REQUIRED REGENTS EXAMS FOR ADVANCED REGENTS DIPLOMA
Passing the following Regents exams with a score of 65 or better is required for a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation:
- Comprehensive English Mathematics (All three)
- Global History
- US History
- Science (One physical and one life science)
- Language other than English
WITH HONORS
The "with honors" designation is added to either Regents Diploma option for students with an average score of 90 or more on all required Regents exams.
LOCAL DIPLOMA*
* Students with disabilities with an individualized education program or section 504 Accommodation Plan
Low Pass Safety Net Option1: 5 required Regents exams with a score of 55 or better as follows: 1 Math, 1 Science, 1 ELA, 1 Global History and Geography, 1 US History and Government;
OR
Regents Competency Test (RCT) Safety Net Option for students entering grade 9 prior to September 2011: passing re on corresponding RCT if student does not achieve a score of 55 or higher on the Regents examination.
OR
Compensatory Safety Net Option: scores between 45-54 on one or more of the five required Regents exams, other Than the English Language Arts (ELA) or mathematics exam, but compensates the low score with a score of 65 or higher on another required Regents exam. Note: a score of at least 55 must be earned on both the ELA and mathematics exams. A score of 65 or higher on a single examination may not be used to compensate for more than one examination for which a score of 45-54 is earned.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND OCCUPATIONAL STUDIES (CDOS)
Students enrolled in a Career and Technical Education program earn this endorsement if they also complete an approved technical assessment, a work-based learning experience, and a work-skills employability profile.
