With the help of a generous grant, the Alice E. Grady school has implemented the OLWEUS Bully Prevention Program. This research-based program was developed by Jan Olweus and brought to the United States by Sue Limber. OLWEUS is a program that is being implemented with our leaders in Grades 2-6. OLWEUS, although not a scripted program, empowers students to take an active stance against bullying. Through team meetings, and preventive and responsive approaches to bully prevention, our leaders learn, not only to avoid bullying behaviors but to not be a by-stander but to stand up against bullying either by intervening at the moment or by telling an adult at home or at school. With the implementation of OLWEUS in our school, we are committed to the four rules of Bullying Prevention:
- We will not bully others
- We will try to help students who are being bullied
- We will try to include students who are being left out
- If we know that someone is being bullied, we will tell an adult at home and at school
