Board appoints Josh Elder to newly created position

At today's Board of Education meeting, Josh Elder as appointed as the newly created position of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Human Resources.  

With over twenty years in education, Mr. Elder is an exceptional educational leader with a deep understanding of teaching and learning, extensive district-level experience, and expertise in leading complex systems-level work. His career reflects a consistent focus on improving instruction while building the systems, relationships, and professional capacity necessary to sustain that improvement.

In his current role as Director of Curriculum and Human Resources in the Haldane School District for the past five years, Mr. Elder has demonstrated particularly strong curriculum and instructional leadership. He led a comprehensive K-5 mathematics resource adoption process that included teacher collaboration, resource review, analysis of learning outcomes, professional development planning, and multiple opportunities for stakeholder feedback. He has also led districtwide professional learning focused on the Science of Reading, Universal Design for Learning, curriculum alignment, and emerging instructional issues such as artificial intelligence and the implementation of the NYS Portrait of a Graduate transformation.  He also played a large role in creating instructional spaces as a part of Haldane’s capital improvement plan and visited school districts to design a world class learning environment according to his reference.  His previous experience as a middle and high school administrator further demonstrates the depth of his instructional expertise. Mr. Elder brings equally significant experience in Human Resources. He established his district's Human Resources department and developed systems for recruitment, hiring, onboarding, certification, employee evaluation, professional development, and retention.
