Dr. James Ryan recognized for service to the community

We know January 1, 2025, is a holiday, but thanks to the Mayor of Elmsford, we will have another reason to celebrate!

Mayor Robert Williams has proclaimed January 1, 2025, as “Superintendent Dr. James Ryan Day” in the Village of Elmsford.

Dr. Ryan was recently presented with a plaque from the mayor in honor of his Outstanding Service to the Elmsford Union Free School District. Dr. Ryan has served as interim superintendent for the past year and will finish his tenure at the end of this month.

“The Mayor, Trustees and Administrators thank you for the great job you did as Interim Superintendent of the Elmsford School District. We wish you well with your next adventure. May you enjoy many years of happy and healthy retirement,” the plaque reads in part.

Dr. Ryan joined the EUFSD in December 2023 and helped guide the district through a budget approval process as well as the search for a new superintendent, a task he referred to as one of the most important charges to be undertaken by a Board of Education.

At his last board meeting on Dec. 4, Board President David Hecht thanked Dr. Ryan for his dedication to the district.

“I want to say a special thank you to all the hard work and dedication Dr. Ryan has done to help us with the search. His leadership has made it pleasurable,” he said of the exhausting superintendent search process.

“We wish him all the best,” Mr. Hecht added.
