Dear EUFSD Families,
For the past ten years, it has been my honor to serve our community. I am grateful for the distinction of leading the Elmsford Union Free School District as the Superintendent of Schools. As I reflect on my time in Elmsford, I am amazed by the strength of our community, which is made possible by an unwavering partnership with the Village.
We are very proud of our schools and our students and all that they achieve. We believe that every child in our District has great potential and deserves the means to be competitive with their peers. To this end, our focus for the 2019-2020 school year will be educating the “whole child.” Too often we place an overwhelming emphasis on curriculum and standards. While very important, we must think outside of the norm and consider individual social emotional needs. Our goal is to provide opportunities for every student, which will be achived through a focus on equity in learning. This will be accomplished by creating awareness, empowering students to find their voice, and effective communication to ensure that every student has the support they need to take full advantage of the opportunities offered.
In addition, we will continue our strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts with a focus on academic outcomes. Our teachers and students have made great strides in improving teaching and learning throughout the EUFSD. We are extremely proud that our four-year graduation rate is approaching 100%, but more important is that our students are leaving our schools ready for college and career.
From the time our students begin their academic journey at Dixson Primary School to their graduation from Alexander Hamilton High School, it is our shared mission to optimize teaching and learning for student achievement by providing the highest quality educational experience possible. Our District continues to explore and improve our curricular offerings that provide our students with the means to competition. We do this collaboratively with an emphasis on the whole child.
We know that our students’ successes are the result of the support of our entire educational community. Therefore, I encourage you to continue to play an active role in our district by participating in the many events facilitated throughout the District. Please visit our website at www.eufsd.org to learn more about our goals, as well as the many partnerships and initiatives we have forged to provide opportunity for your child.
Aligned with our previous goals, we are committed to increasing community engagement in our schools. If you have not done so already, become an active participant in the Elmsford Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA); please be sure to visit our schools; attend our Board of Education meetings; and, of course, enjoy the many community events and activities that will take place throughout the year.
On behalf of the Elmsford UFSD Board of Education and myself, we look forward to the privilege of working with you on behalf of our children and for the benefit of the entire Village of Elmsford. We are confident that together, our Village will provide our students with the essential guidance to become informed and global citizens.
I am confident that the 2019-2020 academic year will be a very successful year in the Elmsford Union Free School District. I look forward to the many great things to come!
