(Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse)
VAASA (Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse) is a peer education/peer leadership program in which accepted varsity athletes take an pledge to remain alcohol and other drugs free. These members must serve as positive role models and leaders of the school by taking a stand against substance abuse. They are trained by Ms. Marks to educate our younger students at Alice E. Grady Elementary School on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The students participate in activities surrounding peer pressure and refusal skills. They also discuss important issues such as decision making, goal setting, character education and conflict resolution.
