The National Elementary Honor Society chapter of Alice E. Grady Elementary School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in scholarship and responsibility. Students are selected for membership by majority vote of a principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each year.
Students in grades 5 and 6 are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must hold a cumulative average of 90% or greater, with no single average below 85%. Each Spring semester, those students who meet this criterion are invited to become members of the Grady chapter of the NEHS. If a student does not meet the expectations of responsibility, demonstrating courtesy, concern and respect of others and good citizenship, they may be denied.
To maintain membership, four areas of evaluation are considered: scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership.
Following notification, a formal induction ceremony is held at the school to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance (or better) in all criteria that led to their selection.
